HOW TO CALCULATE THE RIGHT CAPACITY OF SPILL CONTAINMENT PALLETS

The law (Ref D.M. 392 16/05/1996 for oils and D.M. 18/05/1995 for deposits of hydroalcoholic solutions, deliberation of 27/07/1984) says that the containment basins must contain the largest of:
THE VOLUME OF THE LARGEST CONTAINER STORED ON THE SPILL CONTAINMENT PALLET AND 1/3 OF THE TOTAL OF THE LIQUID STORED
EXAMPLE 1

TOTAL LITERS STORED: 1500
Therefore 1500 x 1/3 = 500 LITERS
LARGEST CONTAINER STORED: 1000 LITER
1000 l > 500 l
THEREFORE THE SPILL CONTAINMENT PALLET HAS TO CONTAIN 1000 LITERS since it is the greater result between the two
EXAMPLE 2

TOTAL LITERS STORED: 5000
Therefore 5000 x 1/3 = 1667 LITERS
LARGEST CONTAINER STORED: 1000 LITER
1000 l < 1667 l
THEREFORE THE SPILL CONTAINMENT PALLET HAS TO CONTAIN 1667 LITERS since it is the greater result between the two
